A questionnaire regarding the diagnostic and therapeutic
attitudes towards a patient referred for erectile dysfunction (ED) was
sent to 1743 therapists divided into 3 categories in 6 european countries
: psycho-sexologists, uro-andrologists, and other specialities. The return
rate was 29.5 % (514). Little differences were found among the 6 countries.
Greater differences still exist between psycho-sexologists and the other
therapists, although many of the latter, especially urologists, today allot
a larger role to the psychological and marital aspects. Intracavernosal
injections are largely used for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
Nearly 50 % of the men referred for ED seem to receive at least one injection,
20 % are treated with auto-intracavernosal injections.
