The words of anorexia

J. G. VEYRAT, O. EVRARD (Argenteuil)

Our aim is to point out the words recurrent in the language of anorexia nervosa, especially when they are talk about their own body. In a group of 65 cases of anorexia nervosa, all female, consisting of patients in a general hospital, and according to criteria of DSM III, we studied and classified in 9 items, some sentences often close to a kind of delirium, like relating to their body, their relationship to sexuality, to food, and to death. We compared those sentences, with some drawings by the same patients. This is illustrated by some examples.
