Incest: between shame and guilt

C. MIOLLAN (Marseille)

The psychological treatment of a person who was the victim of incest is not easy. We have to deal with a dual feeling of guilt and shame. We must help the person talk about it, understanding that this traumatic experience sends back to a subjective building period before the acquisition of language. Allowing a "patient" to "tell" is allowing him to rebuilt himself. Psychologists, social workers, doctors, must take care of his "identity" building, rebuilding, and not haste to the story.
