Sophrological approach of sexual offenders
V. ARANTHABE (Metz)

Summary: Sophrology was founded in the sixties by a Colombian psychiatrist, Dr Alphonso CAYCEDO. It takes its roots from three oriental philosophical currents: - Yoga (12OO BC in India) - Buddhism (600 BC in Nepal) - Zen (500 AD in Japan) It belongs to numerous corporal approaches and is characterized by the notion of a modified state of consciousness. Although close to hypnosis, it is different in that there is a free suggestion and alliance between the patient and sophrology. The discourse of sexual delinquents indicates a state of consciousness modified during the act as well as a split-based functioning originating from early traumas short of speach. The sophrological corporal approach will enable the subject to feel himself as one, within a primordial narcissistic continuity. In other words, it is a regression process towards the basic corporal image, core of the hand-to-hand moment, in order for the speach to materialise.
