Sexotherapy: from failure to aporia

J.R. DINTRANS (Paris)

Summary:

Whilst treating complex cases during our daily clinics, we are confronted with numerous failures, including delayed failures such as relapses; these clinics stretch us to the limits of our capabilities with regard to clinical modeling. Through our failures and limitations, we come face to face with our own theoretical deadlocks and aporia; nevertheless, these failures also provide us with an opportunity to overcome them.

However, the legitimacy of our theoretical structures does come under fire in two ways: i.e. their importance is minimized through certain general factors and, at the same time, their validity is often weakened. Does this mean that theorizing has become obsolete? We hope to demonstrate that such is not the case, by putting into perspective the relative importance of theoretical frameworks and general factors, as well as providing a unique tool with which to enlarge the conceptual framework within which we construct our models.
