Summary:

This article presents a brief history of masturbation. In particular, subjects such as masturbation in ancient time and attitude of church towards this practice are described, along with certain accessories used to facilitate masturbation. Preventive measures used in the past against masturbation are also described, as well as the different cures used to remedy the consequences of this vice. The two famous publications Onania and Onanisme are also presented in which the polemic against masturbation found its justification.
