SUMMARY :
Vestibulitis is defined as "a chronic vulvar pain characterized by a feeling of burning".
Its more frequent consequences are urological, ano-rectal and sexual dysfunction accompanied, in most cases, by dyspareunia. Vulvar irritation causes local muscles contractions, which provoke dorsal neural root stimulation, inducing a vicious circle of primary and secondary pain, as well as antalgic contractions focalized on trigger-points (Travel & Simon).
Vestibulitis was classically treated by physicians, very often gynaecologists, and in many cases by surgery.
A new way emerged recently for treating this highly handicapping disease through a holistic approach.
After direct medical treatment has taken care of known aetiologies or symptoms (infections, inflammations, mechanical irritations, allergies) the proposed method combines computerized bio-feedback, perineal exercises, relaxation, behavioural modifications and more.
This new treatment of Vestibulitis - including the psycho-social aspect of sexual pathologies - requires a multi-faceted approach, conducted by a multidisciplinary team.
The method will be described, based on actual practise. It will explain how despairing women patients have been given the opportunity of recovering normal life.
