Couples and territorial space in psychomotric therapy

M. Graf, D. Chatton (Genève)

SUMMARY :

This presentation develops the concept of territory used in psychomotric-therapy with couples presenting sexual problems.
We will see how each member of the couple is asked to delimit a personnal space in the therapy room, how he is able either to protect this space from intrusions, or to share it with the other one, in the end, how the couple bilds up a commun territory and how it used it.
This has a value for diagnosis and for treatment.

During 15 years of practice, we have orbserved several times the link between territory and sexuality - cf. W. PASINI in his book Eloge de l’intimité and R. Neuburger Les territoires de l’intime.
Experiencing appropriation and negociations of individual and couple’s territories during the therapy improves awarness and changes in the couple’s dynamic.
